Bastard.

Kill Bill being one of my favorite movies I have high expectations for this one. They turned out to be different though.

The Basterds prepare to carve their next masterpiece.

Inglourious Basterds is a realistic movie, unlike Kill Bill where you sometimes have to suspend your disbelief(try punching your way out of your grave). Why am I even comparing these two? They are different movies. Moving on.

This is a film about Nazis and Jews duking it out in France. Most of the actors are just background characters. Although this is one long movie(for its kind) some of the scenes here are truly memorable. Just prepare to sit most of the time with long dialogues with this one. In the end, its worth it.

Dr. Parnassus cures insomnia!

Watching The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus is a mercurial affair. The visuals on the fantasy set pieces are great, but the story is either incoherent, undecided, or both at the same time. A shame really, since this film also stars the late Heath Ledger, and his character here is really undecipherable, so to sum it he is actually not engaging. All the characters too. You couldn't care less what happened to anyone of them. The "imaginarium" is the strongest suite of the movie. The imaginations of the people here are really colorful, which is ironic seeing as to how bland the story is. Shame, this movie could have been better.

Terry Gilliam looks like Gandalf  though. Haha.

The Devil is actually a reasonable person here. Wow.

Who is 67?

I recently watched Shutter Island, a mystery movie based on the novel by the same name of Dennis Lehane(who wrote Mystic River,  which also has a movie adaptation). It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and is directed by Martin Scorsese.

Should we start with the review then?

What did he see?

Shutter Island is about a US Marshall who is sent to investigate a mental health institution for the criminally insane(dangerous crazy people), where one of the patients went missing. Gradually we learn that nothing is as it seems on the island and the protagonist is gripped with hallucinations and nightmares, which he thinks is a part of a plan of the institution to "never let him leave the island". Far in the movie, the protagonist loses trust on all the people in the island.

Sounds interesting? Right? The first part ain't bad. It's just that it is done on other films before. The film doesn't have any problems with that since it is executed very well. The latter part is where it falls apart.

I haven't read the book, but I was somewhat disappointed with the ending. It's just too predictable. The film took the easy way out, doling out one reason for everything in the film. It isn't satisfying, but at least the film has its good parts.

Watch this one if you must, just be prepared to be disappointed in the end.

Winner,Winner

The Art Of Contesting.

What the heck is contesting?

As I watch The Prize Winner Of Defiance,Ohio, I gradually learn that this is the art of making ends meet used by mothers in the late 50s.

The movie tells the story of a family of 12, where a very likable mother makes life living for her family, even in the presence of her oppressive husband.

The movie shows many wonderful scenes, such as the joy of the family, when their mother wins yet again another contest. I won't elaborate no more, but I will say that this movie is definitely worth watching. I'm gonna buy the book. ^_^
