Who is 67?

I recently watched Shutter Island, a mystery movie based on the novel by the same name of Dennis Lehane(who wrote Mystic River,  which also has a movie adaptation). It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and is directed by Martin Scorsese.

Should we start with the review then?

What did he see?

Shutter Island is about a US Marshall who is sent to investigate a mental health institution for the criminally insane(dangerous crazy people), where one of the patients went missing. Gradually we learn that nothing is as it seems on the island and the protagonist is gripped with hallucinations and nightmares, which he thinks is a part of a plan of the institution to "never let him leave the island". Far in the movie, the protagonist loses trust on all the people in the island.

Sounds interesting? Right? The first part ain't bad. It's just that it is done on other films before. The film doesn't have any problems with that since it is executed very well. The latter part is where it falls apart.

I haven't read the book, but I was somewhat disappointed with the ending. It's just too predictable. The film took the easy way out, doling out one reason for everything in the film. It isn't satisfying, but at least the film has its good parts.

Watch this one if you must, just be prepared to be disappointed in the end.

it was the ending that made it a work of art: open ended (somewhat reminiscent of Taxi Driver's ending). This is one tricky part that made me restless for a couple of nights with a thought: Scorsese is a genius. DiCaprio's character is psychologically complex, the movie is itself an illusion of this character. Pinag-isipan tlg ni scorsesse yung script. its a great film. most of the people not aware with Scorssese's oeuvre might find it disappointing. most works of scorsese have 'disappointing' themes.
